Inquiry Term 2

We have been working hard over the past 6 weeks on our inquiry topic which focused on science! We looked at how to store clay, how to make oobleck and vampire slime. At the end of the 6 weeks, the students worked in groups to demonstrate their new knowledge to create a display board including all the necessary information to share with the students of Te Ope Ruaraki. Check out the photos below!

Cultural Day

Last Friday we had cultural day at school. All the children came to school all dressed up in bright and colourful outfits to represent the culture/s they come from. We also had a whole school shared morning tea. The children had a chance to try different food as well as eat the yummy food with all their classmates. It was a very busy day that the children loved.

Way too Cool Show

On the 16th of May we had 2 lovely people from Perfrom! Education perform a show to us called “Way too Cool”.

The children loved this show. It led the children, with the characters, through the twists and turns of friendship and mapping out a way to solve their differences using empathy, kindness and a strong sense of humour.

Some of our students were picked to help out within the show, which was super cool. There were lots of smiles and laughs.

Pink Shirt Day

On the 17th of May, we celebrated Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is an annual event against bullying, held in Canada and New Zealand. Students wore pink to raise awareness about bullying, particularly in schools. We focused on giving each other compliments throughout the day to build each other up. Florence discovered she had found the Pink Shirt day lunch and had to give a compliment to someone in her hub. Check out our great outfits!

Whānau Picnic Night!

Wow week 3 almost finished! How exciting. This week we held our annual Whānau Picnic night on Tuesday. It was a fantastic turnout for the whole school and for our hub. We loved interacting with you all at dinner time and carrying those conversations over to the classroom. It was lovely to see your children showing you their quality work they have produced these past 3 weeks and seeing some families catching up with each other. If you couldn’t make it, our doors are always welcome to have a chat or to see your child’s work.

In other news, we also had our first hub assembly and we got to celebrate some superstars!

First photo is us posing for our Whānau Picnic Night slideshow and the second is our hub certificate receivers!
